This book uses a unique method of storytelling by including actual pictures to help tell the story of the Peculiars. This is used to great affect and helps to bring the reader into this creepy, wonderful world. The author has taken great pains to weave a magical story around these bizarre, real world pictures, and it definitely paid off. The writing draws you in and the pictures keep you captivated, even though they make you shiver and wonder, “How?!” The characters are just as wonderful, and experiencing their Peculiarities through Jacob, the main character, gives us a viewpoint to look through that is both familiar and comforting, yet chock full of the surprise and fascination that would naturally follow seeing such incredible things. If you enjoy shivering at bizarre things and discovering a magical world nestled right under the nose of the unsuspecting common folk, if you enjoy characters that make you want to dig deep into a story and a world that’s too interesting to resist, I would highly suggest this captivating book!
