A moving rendition of an extraordinary life. Te Ata broke many barriers to become a spokesperson for her tribe. In speaking for them she also spoke for the entire nation of Indigenous Peoples. As a storyteller she carried the history and culture of many different tribal groups into the light. She preserved and promoted as she entertained. She was someone who helped shape the awakening towards understanding that has been so important to the elevation of all First Peoples' status. In helping her own community she helped many others, bringing improvements to lives that had languished and struggled, having been little more than that of captive prisoners. She opened the eyes of many who had installed themselves as custodians and rulers, who thought of themselves as the betters, the superior race, Te Ata began the process that opened the door to a new awareness, towards respect and better treatment.
