Raina just wants to be a normal sixth grader, but one night while leaving a Girl Scout meeting, she falls and injures both of her front teeth. What follows is a long and frustrating time with braces, surgeries, and even a retainer with false teeth. On top of that, she has to deal with an earthquake, a crush on boys, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly. The story takes us from middle school to high school, where Raina discovers her artistic potential and what friendship really means, and finally manages to... smile.
