Lula Viramonte anhela ser una persona a la que nadie pueda ignorar. Por eso quiere ser directora de en un circo ambulante mexicano. Pero perseguir los sueños es difícil cuando hay que trabajar en la cosecha de uva en Delano, California; cuidar a la madre enferma y a los hermanos, evitar que se desate el temperamento volátil de papá. Entonces Lula conoce a Dolores Huerta, Larry Itliong y a otros activistas por los derechos de los agricultores y entiende que ella y su familia deben sumarse a la huelga que está a punto de estallar. Luchar es una forma, tal vez la única, de cambiar el futuro.
Lula Viramonte longs to be someone no one can ignore. That's why she wants to be the director of a traveling Mexican circus. But pursuing her dreams is difficult when she has to work in the grape harvest in Delano, California; care for her ailing mother and siblings; and keep her father's volatile temper from escalating. Then Lula meets Dolores Huerta, Larry Itliong, and other farmers' rights activists and realizes that she and her family must join the strike that is about to break out. Fighting is one way, perhaps the only way, to change the future.
